BENGALURU
As a city, Bangalore is growing faster than ever before. 1.3million live in slums, most of whom live a transitional lifestyle – migrant laborers from other Indian states. These families that live in blue tents have no access to sanitation or child care.
At every construction site you will see small children playing amidst dangerous equipment & rubble. There are several NGOs like Diyaghar that runs child care classrooms for migrants and face the challenge of providing a stable class room facility for these children. If several pockets of stable community settlements are built speedily through the city, these NGOs can also continue to make maximum impact in education, training and employment as the laborers can
continue to be part of the eco system’s chain communities even if their work causes them to shift location. The concept uses a human-centered approach to train the dwellers in building portable structures themselves from cement plastic ber boards and bamboo frames using a flexible format that allows them to easily repair, add, dismantle as needs change because Bangalore as a city is rapidly changing year to year.
We have selected 2 adjacent sites at Agara Flyover, which is a typical representation of Bangalore’s urban landscape and also will not face objections from the city afuent who will not support such communities coming up adjacent to their neighborhoods due to several cultural reasons.
Several yovers and lakes dot the city and have ample space
within these to build urban communities as these sites are also well connected to public transport Metros and City bus, which is a huge priority to make a social housing successful and practical
