This proposal was created for the Urban Commissions open call during Dubai Design Week (D3) 2019. The brief invited large-scale, public installations that engage the community through participatory, multisensory design—our concept focused on encouraging cycling to work in Dubai.
Cycling offers clear benefits: it shortens long office commutes, improves productivity, keeps the air clean, and reduces fuel consumption. Recognizing these advantages, Dubai has launched multiple initiatives to become a bike-friendly city. Our design supports this vision by providing an inviting rest and recharge shelter for cyclists.
The shelter is conceived as a self-sustaining structure clad in photovoltaic solar fabric, generating clean energy to power on-site amenities such as air pumps, water dispensers, and bike-charging stations. Beyond comfort and utility, the installation acts as a visual statement—celebrating a citywide shift toward sustainable, active transportation.
