RESTORE is an urban installation that embodies the three Rs of restoration—Recycle materials, Repose the mind, and Rejuvenate the body.
In today’s post-COVID cities, where indoor air-conditioned environments dominate, people need outdoor places to meet, breathe fresh air, and feel inspired. RESTORE sets a new benchmark for public space: a pavilion that is sustainable, modular, and deeply people-centric.
Design & Experience
Drawing on the tradition of mashrabiya—the intricate Islamic screen—RESTORE reinterprets this element in modern materials and form.
Its diagrid exoskeleton creates dramatic patterns of light and shadow, with open screens on shaded sides and denser patterns where sun exposure is stronger, passively cooling the space and generating a comfortable micro-climate.
Plantings of mint and citrus add natural fragrance and enhance the sensation of coolness, turning the pavilion into a multisensory retreat.
Sustainable Construction
RESTORE demonstrates how waste can become architecture.
Screens and frames are 3-D printed from recycled plastic and wood waste, fabricated off-site and assembled by hand.
The modular system can be dismantled and re-installed as a bus shelter, park gazebo, shaded seating, or garden porch, extending its life across different neighborhoods.
Urban Impact
Beyond offering shade and relaxation, RESTORE acts as urban décor—a collection of moveable objects that reduce landfill burden while giving each site a distinct identity.
Visitors can also watch presentations inside the pavilion to learn how 3-D printing turns discarded materials into durable public structures, proving that cutting-edge technology can advance sustainability at scale.
